Essex Wedding Photography of the day: Bride and groom expression

October 13th, 2011

When many moons ago I was learning photography I was taught  Pose, light, expression!!!

Pose: you cant always control this element, but when you take control make sure to take the time to pose the Bride and Groom to the best you possibly can.

Light: you can control this all of the time, no excuses please.

Expression: sometimes you can, sometimes you cant when you can, make them smile. Here endeth the lesson!

Important Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

October 11th, 2011

Before you decide to book your wedding photographer, make sure you ask them the following important questions. We are all aware how modern technology has  simplified photography.  However their is still a vast expanse between a professional wedding photographer and just a new shiny £500 camera.

After leaving school, I decided to study every aspect of photography. During this time studying in Essex, I gained a City&Guilds in professional photography.

Have they acquired a formal photography qualification?

Photography is a creative vocation, but do not forget it is also a profession that is easy to learn, but very difficult to master. Any self respecting wedding photographer must have at least 1 formal photography qualification that they are willing to show you.

A photography qualification implies that they have learnt the rudimentary basics of photography, such as; composition, perspective,  the photographers grid,  controlling flash, exposure and light metering.

Your wedding is the most important day of your life, do not let a photographer with the gift of the gab and a camera to set ‘Auto’  practice photography on your wedding day.

After completing my City&Guilds in professional photography, I was an apprentice with JCM Studios in Brentwood. I attended over 60 wedding during my apprenticeship.

How many Weddings have they previously attended

Experience matters, you can’t learn and foresee every possible eventuality that could take place on your  wedding day. However hiring a wedding photographer with years of experience means they are able to be totally prepared for all scenarios.

If you’re booking a photographer with less than 5 solo weddings under their belt, ask to see each  complete wedding album.  This can ease your concerns over their previous experience and offer insight into the  way they will structure your wedding day.

What back-up equipment and procedures are in place

As we previously stated, lots of things can go wrong during the course of your wedding day. It’s paramount that your wedding photographer is prepared for any problems that may occur on his side. This can include his main camera breaking down, illness causing the photographer to be unable to attend.

I always carry 3 camera’s, 3 Lenses, 3 Flashes and spare batteries and memory cards. This can seem over the top, but not to me, as I genuinely care about capturing your wedding day whatever happens.

I hope these tips will give you a good starting point before you quiz your future wedding photographer.  :)

Our 3 Favourite Essex Wedding Venues

October 11th, 2011

I  have previously  worked at nearly all of the leading Essex Wedding venues over the last 10 years. Like any professional photographer, I have my favourites.

Sometimes it’s the natural light on the day, other times it’s the Bride & Groom who you are shooting, but these  3 Essex Wedding venues below really do stand out as consistently producing remarkable wedding photography.

Leez Priory

Set in a gorgeous expanse of parkland, near Felsted in Essex, Leez Priory is a magnificent Tudor mansion that would normally be owned by the National Trust.  Leez Priory offers fantastic back drops for wedding photography, as it contains mirror-like lakes, beautifully kept lawns and a sweeping driveway that leads the eye.

I’ve worked at Leez Priory on numerous occasions and each and every time I have come away with an album full of high quality pictures, all thanks to the stunning architecture of Leez Priory.

Ingatestone Hall

Ingatestone Hall is another Tudor house,  set in a smaller setting than Leez Priory but crammed with even more history.  The front face of the hall with it’s towering clock and impressive arch way really lends itself to beautiful Bride & Groom shots.

The rear of the hall contains a walled garden, extensive lawns and a pond, all of which are available to the Wedding Photographer on the day. These impressive landscaped features can really provide a stunning setting for your Wedding Photography.

Orsett Hall

Rebuilt in 2007,  Orsett Hall remains the quintessential South-Essex Wedding venue.  The newly rebuilt Orsett Hall still looks as magnificent as ever with added bling, especially the Wedding Bridal Suit with it’s new  flamboyant colour theme.

Orsett Hall offers a good variety of photography locations, including the 12 acres of parkland, and the landscaped garden which has a  lovely bridge over a Koi pond.

Essex Wedding Photography of the day: Bride and Groom at Essex Church

This picture was taken at a Church in Essex, I used the entrance to frame the bride & Groom and show the confetti on the floor. In post processing I used a very slight blue filter which actually shows the whites more clearly which is great for the confetti to be shown to its full: ENJOY!

Essex Wedding Photography of the day: Stunning wedding cake

For this picture I bounced the flash at a forty five degree angle off the wall that was close enough to use to give perfect even light, I hate it when you see so many nice cakes with harsh shadows in the pictures, stunning cake made by ENJOY!

Essex Wedding Photography of the Day: Rose and Candle

I really love this classic black & white shot I took recently at Orsett Hall, Essex.  I used a F number which insured a very high detail level in the rose.  The depth of field really frames the rose and candle perfectly. Enjoy!
